PortalMill houses the central business functions for EMEA under one roof encouraging connection and collaboration across all teams as they work together to support and delight our customers. Combined with our cutting-edge manufacturing approach, which strives for continuous improvement through the Herman Miller Performance System, PortalMill plays a pivotal role in the success of our business and our customers.
About the Space
A ‘portal’ is a gateway or a starting point. Being based on Portal Road, it seemed like an apt name for a building where great pieces of furniture – and workspaces – come to life.
Designed by leading architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, the challenge for the design of PortalMill was to combine activities from previous facilities. The L-shaped factory floor allows for the flow of materials through the building. To support people from numerous teams, the building's office spaces were designed to provide open and flexible spaces allowing for greater collaboration.
About our Manufacturing
We opened our first factory in the UK nearly 40 years ago. Today we operate out of PortalMill, our state-of-the-art, custom-built factory in Melksham in the UK. From this base we manufacture and assemble our market-leading office furniture including workstations, task chairs and soft seating supplying businesses across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
